My 2010.

Olah!

I skipped work today to rest my aching foot. So I decided to visit my virtual site. Wow, that has been over 3 months of no update. The turn of events in my life had kept me away from here.

Geez, my last post was back in November. Wadda-eff right? Didn't even had the chance to share how my 2010 ended. Well, it's never too late, is it? I gotta say, I had just the right amount of ups and downs last year.
  • January: My status changed to married. Hence, I conquered my mission to somehow "win" the hearts of my in-laws. It was unexpectedly one of the memorable times in my life
    :)
  • February: Bound to Singapore to try my luck again since Archie is here. First trial of the year, was held in the SG Immigration for some interrogation. Yes, was asked questions but I did not worry a single bit. Why? Cause I fed them with the information rather than them searching for answers in their system. Told them it's "not my first entry to Singapore" and that "I worked previously under a different name". But since "I am now married, am using my husband's surname. Here's a copy of my husband's details. I also have the authenticated copy of our marriage certificate..." Then the Immigration Officer finally convinced that I am not here to do any thing but visit my husband. There goes the exit door and saw my hubby from afar. Whew!
  • March: Only went to two interviews. One was in Hitachi and the other was InterCall. Two different job scopes. First was logistics whilst the latter was conferencing. I prayed and asked God for his blessing. Either of the two will be fine. First luck of the year, I got the offer from InterCall. To double that luck, Hitachi also called to tell I was hired. But too late, I just signed with the InterCall just minutes earlier. Oh well, gotta let go the other. But yeah, thanks God!
  • April: Archie requested that we move to another place closer to where he works. We were then living in the East whilst his work is at the West. Yep, it was quite a sacrifice for him. He bare the travel for me when I used to work for DHL. But since I got a new one, I had to grant his request.
  • May: We found a place. It was in a condominium. Second trial of the year, our agent was a fake! We found days before we moved that owner didn't want to renew the lease so we only had 4 days to stay in that place and then moved to the next bldg. Mind you, it was our first time to move from the place we lived for nearly 3 years. This kind of mess was not an easy thing for us. And so we moved to the next bldg. Two weeks later, agents and prospective clients come and go viewing the place. WTH! It was chaotic! After that we were again moved to another condominium this time. And we were allowed to stay for a month only. It was up to us if we were willing to continue. The flat was huge with 4 rooms, etc. The rent was a whooping $4,500. N-O! @_@
  • June: Found a nice place. It was in Dover inside the Singapore Poly compound. We liked it so we stayed.
  • July: Jo and Wence came to visit. It was one of the highlights of the year for me. Got to visit Indonesia. We basked in the sun, and just had a real good time. Short and sweet month :)

  • August: I had the rarest conversation with my kumare Rona about investments. Since I chat with her a lot how I love to travel, she referred me to her agent about an investment that will be put to use in the future. I was engrossed with the idea that I liked it at an instance. Talked to Archie and we both liked it.
  • September: So I went to Manila for a short-secret trip to sign that investment. Boom! I have something I call my own...our own.
  • October: Archie's cousin, Kuya Vernz was hospitalized and was going critical. Tough but he managed, thanks God.
  • November: Mom-in-law was brought to ICU. Abnormal heartbeat. Sad, but she managed. Another work of God, thank you. The Pinay owner of the flat we were staying at said that we only have until Feb 1st of this year (2011) to stay. It didn't come as a surprise cause we were actually planning to move out. She just happened to spoke first.
  • December: Started to look for flats to rent. Viewed here and there until we found the perfect place. Lakeside it is! But before we even moved, we took a break first from all the stress. We went to Krabi, Thailand to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Straight from Thailand, we we eventually moved and welcomed the new year in our new-found home.
So that was my ups and downs of 2010 in a nutshell. Looking forward to having a better 2011 ahead!

Dream B-I-G

BIG as defined is "large, above average in size" ... this is how I dream. I've always had grand dreams. I mean who wouldn't right? But it's tough to choose which dream is the right one to accomplish. I sigh most of the time when I start to re-assess myself and see if I am anywhere close to my dream. What are my dreams anyway? Well, I'm sure we all have same aspirations.

  1. To have my dream house
  2. Drive my own car
  3. Manage my own business
  4. Travel the world
And most of all, I'm able to share these dreams with my family. It's easy to write and even talk about it. But to achieve it takes a whole lifetime :( One has gotta work really hard for these. Whew!

Let's work it! :D

August 21, 2010

Just random.

I've completely neglected my virtual job :( ... I could no longer commit time to do my blog write-ups sigh. Work really eats up everything in my brain most of the time with no strength to do other things.

At work, they say August is a very busy month for their business. Truly indeed! Gosh, this passed week was like a roller coaster ride in full swing. If I remember right, I only get to be away from my workstation when I go to the lieu. It's madness! But there's a good side of it. The company buy our lunches for 3 days. Isn't that cool? I get to save haha. I've saved prolly about $20 :) And for that, there's a week and a half more to battle the busy August. May the force be with me!

Next month, I'm turning 30. Ouch! haha. There are so many things me and my hubby have planned to make our lives worth living for. And one to mention is that at 30, we've pledged to stop eating chicken skin (oh dear) haha!

Happy Thanksgiving!

While the US celebrates Thanksgiving, I'd prepared a mini-thanksgiving dinner for all of us here at home last night. I prepared a seafood-themed thanksgiving which my housemates enjoyed. A day like this is worth celebrating especially if we offer it to God as a way of gratitude for giving us bountiful blessings. Cheers to all the blessings we had for this year. And we hope for more to come next year!

Something to ponder...

"Good or bad, hard to say"
Yang Wai Hoong wrote:

Once upon a time, there was a king. The king liked one of his followers very much because he was very wise and always gave very useful advice. Therefore the king took him along wherever he went.

One day, a dog bit the king, the finger was injured and the wound was getting worse. He asked the follower if that was a bad sign. The follower said, 'Good or bad, hard to say'. In the end, the finger of the king was too bad that had to be cut. The king asked the follower again if that was a bad sign. Again, the follower gave the same answer, 'Good or bad, hard to say'. The king became very angry and sent the follower to prison. One day, the king went hunting in the jungle. He got excited when he was on the chase of a deer. Deeper and deeper he went inside the jungle. In the end he found himself lost in the jungle. To make thing worse, he got captured by the native people lived inside the jungle. They wanted to sacrifice him to their god. But when they noticed that the king had one finger short, they released him immediately as he was not a perfect man anymore and not suitable for sacrifice.

The king managed to get back to his palace after all. And he finally understood the follower's wise quote, 'Good or bad, hard to say'. If he hadn't lost one finger, the native people could have killed him. He ordered to release the follower, and apologized to him. But to the king amaze, the follower was not mad at him at all.

Instead, the follower said, 'It wasn't a bad thing that you locked me up.' Why? Because if the king hadn't locked the follower up, he would have brought the follower along to the jungle. If the native found that the king was not suitable, they would have used the follower. Again, the quote 'Good or bad, hard to say' stands.

The moral of the story is that everything that happens in this world, there is no absolute good or bad. Sometimes good things turned out to be bad things eventually, while bad things become a gain. Whatever good things that happen to you, enjoy it, but don't have to hold too tight to it, treat it as a surprise in your life. Whatever bad things that happen to you, don't have to feel too sad or despair, in the end, it might not be a total bad thing after all. If one can understand this, he or she will find life much easier.

Let's do this for Baguio!

Add your name to the list and send this message to as many people as possible.

Please do not just click 'forward'-- Instead highlight the text and copy onto a new message box.

Thank you.

Everyone who has gone to SAGADA, PULAG, IFUGAO,and other places in the Cordillera -- will notice that
BAGUIO has LOST its CHARM--it is crowded, it is polluted, water is scarce, it is full of squatters
even in the watershed areas and it is HOT. The pine trees are so choked with smog. Session Road is no
longer leisurely cool walk -- it's like being in Cubao (okey - exaggeration but i really hate the
billboards up there -- it's so cluttered, an eyesore).

Hopefully Sagada won't follow suit---but it's getting to be commercial up there too. Maybe by
signing up, you will help RECLAIM BAGUIO's lost beauty and stop the degradation of all the other
places we all love in the Northern region--so, how about signing this petition?

PETITION for BAGUIO CITY:

We believe that the City of Baguio is culturally, environmentally and aesthetically unique and
different from other cities in the Philippines.

We believe that Baguio is the nerve center of our rich and diverse cultures: the Filipino culture
in general, the highland Cordilleran culture, the lowland Ilocano culture, and the heritage culture
brought about by the Americans during the early 20th Century.

We believe that in the past two decades, the City of Baguio has experienced a substantial degradation of
its unique culture, environment and art.

We believe that the approval of certain politicians with no respect for the aesthetics and the
environment of Baguio to put up concrete structures such as malls, overpasses and flyovers only worsens
Baguio City's lamentable decay as a 'City of Pines.'

We believe that this overdevelopment resulting in pollution has to stop.

We believe that due to its unique history and blend of cultures, Baguio can be to the Philippines as
Barcelona is to Spain, Chiang Mai is to Thailand, and San Francisco is to the United States: a main
center of arts, culture, philosophy, education, tourism, sustainable development and environmental
awareness.

We believe, therefore, that the City of Baguio deserves to be declared a 'Special Heritage Zone,'
so that the degradation brought about by overdevelopment can be minimized and gradually
controlled.

We believe that Baguio City's heritage as a center of culture and environmental awareness
is a valuable asset not just to the Philippines, but also to the world.

We now respectfully call on the residents of Baguio and the Filipino people to sign this humble
petition, and for the local and national government concerned to implement and declare Special Heritage
status on this unique mountain City as soon as possible, preferably before the Baguio Centennial in
2009, so no further destruction on its limited cultural, environmental and aesthetic resources may
continue.

Please add your name to the list and send this message to as many people as possible.

Wake that brain up!

It's weird that sometimes I feel like I'm mentally drained. I haven't been proactively writing. Ack! Work and personal stuffs are really succumbing me. Everytime I reach home from work, I switch on my laptop but merely doing nothing. In fact, I've got pending loads to do, like finish the slide Archie has created, finalize some important matters and yet all I do is blankly stare...at nothing! Argh!

Lately, my carpal tunnel syndrome has started to worsen. If you want to know more about CTS, please click this link. I seriously need to rest and minimize too much typing or doing anything repetitive that aggravates the pain. Rest from typing? Would you? I've contemplated a lot of times. And the answer is hell NO haha! I just can't. So I've decided to purchase this glove reliever online. I'll have it shipped ASAP so I'll have a help. No more resting required hehe.

But then, thinking of how technology has greatly influenced us, I think we should not take our health for granted. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is not just like a headache. It's not a one pill magic kind of treatment. I guess nobody would want their good hands sliced just to get rid of those swollen muscles like the photo below. Aaw! Scares me so much :(

Filipino

What a fascinating remark to hear people from other countries typecast Filipinos to be house-helps. I was talking to this man over the phone at work earlier today and my, what an a**. Excuse me for saying this but it is just unfair to generally label people with what they do for a living. I was pissed to hear when this man uttered and act surprised that I don't work as a house-help like what Filipinos are known for.

May I just say that nobody has the right to step on what others choose to live their lives. I guess these people have such shallow minds. Try thinking out of the box and see what these house-helps really contribute. Yes, they do all the dirty house jobs but have you thought of why big people even hire them? Well, because they actually trust them. These small people that others freely criticize and demoralize are with integrity and dedication at work.

With all due respect to nannies and house-helps around the world not only Filipinos, what you do is genuinely noble. We should not measure what we can contribute and belittle others by what they do. There will be no home kept clean and no baby taken cared of without them. Let's face it, the world is filled with small and big people. We need to have both kinds of people to balance life. Think about it. We can't all be CEOs. We need assistants too. No matter how small it may be, it should not be counted less. That's how logical individuals think, agree?

Scam

"Congratulation !!! You simcard get $7000 from PETRONAS. For more information, please call PETRONAS centre..."

Am I still in the Philippines? haha. Could it be a scam or an early Halloween trick? Goodness, I never thought such scam also exists abroad. I was in Takashimaya dipping in to the crowd of moms and dads with their children shopping for the craziest toys sale when I got it. I never paid much attention to the message yesterday. Although I wish it's true. But how can I believe, if the message was composed grammatically incorrect? haha. What a shame to that scambag. Can someone tell me if this is true? $7000 is $7000 you know! Drop me a note please. hehe

PMS Mode

My weekend was filled with see-saw kinds of emotion due to PMS. Ugh! Women really has to go through this certain phase in their lives in every month of each year. I seriously hate the mood swings because even the smallest detail or idea, I really fume about it.

Just like what happened to my new site, some angel was trying to play with it and completely forgot that blogger and wordpress are two different tools that cater to varying functions. Blogger is quite user-friendly while the latter is a manual-html-challenge. Poor thing, the original CSS was not saved. There you go, website became a complete disaster. huhu. I was so upset about it.I wasted 3 valuable hours of my weekend whining about it. I could have just let it be for the meantime while thinking of solutions. Instead, I made a big deal out of it because of freakin' PMS. Tsk tsk! Don't you just hate it too? It's like some external soul from nowhere suddenly possesses my mental and emotional being. Sigh...

Well, enough said. I really appreciate how the society have come to accept the idea of PMS. It's a great excuse for us. haha! Anyways, the anger was eventually compensated with a nice grin as my payout for niner got credited. All of my write-ups were bought. Isn't that great? Sure it is! *winks*

July 27, 2008

Weekend Splash. Weekend is officially over in a few hours. Here comes another work week to look forward to.

But before I drag myself to work mode, I'd like to write about my weekend. I had a great time for the last two days. Looking back, Lyn (colleague) ended her stay with us last Friday. And so we went to have a little fun at our coconut hub somewhere in Kembangan. It was one helluva fun and laughter. Small talks with good friends help distress from work. Thanks to new found friends.

Yesterday and this morning was my swimming day. Ack! My addiction to it is seriously contagious in a good way. I get to exercise and have fun at the same time. It's just too bad that I got allergy. I think I caught colds due to the strong chlorine content of the pool. But that is not gonna stop me from wanting to swim over and over again. hehe I just can't get enough. Me and my girlfriends really wanna make it a weekend pleasure. Who can resist a healthy way to have fun? I surely won't. I hope you guys enjoy your weekends like I do.

July 20, 2008

Inspirational. I was saddened to hear that Fr. John Bosco Pereira is transferred to another parish. He shared his last preach at the Holy Trinity Church today. He even sang "My Way" as a goodbye song.

Father John is like Father Jerry Orbos in the Philippines. I like the way they preach. It is vividly delivered and very much inspirational. They know exactly how to touch their followers. Their sermons are lively unlike other priests. I hoped I'll get to visit Father Pereira in his new parish assisgnment at St. Francis Xavier's Church. I wish you well Father John.

July 16, 2008

Yahoo! 1 more day to go before the weekend. I just can't wait. For a working gal like me, I guess it is but normal to keep on looking forward to that day when work is done for the whole week.

I am so excited to go for a swim again. It has been a long time since my last dip in the water. It's just too bad that this time I have gained some weight. Ugh! Anyhow, those extra flab in my body will not stop me. hehe Queen Latifah can stand out with nice swimsuit, I should too. Yup, that's the spirit! haha

8 Years. It has been 8 years since the earthquake in Baguio City, Philippines. Check out photos here where many people had died.

I'd like to dedicate this post to all the people who witnessed and lost their loved ones during the tragic incident. Let us pray for their souls in peace. And for the person who had a hoax prediction of another earthquake to hit Philippines this Friday, May God be with you.

Not-So-Happy-Friday. I usually feel happy when it's Friday. But my excitement today suddenly turned sour. This is all because of a less significant person who is trying to steal the limelight from everyone.

For some reason, I don't know why all of a sudden I feel a silent rift somewhere. I can't fully measure the severity because I am not directly involved. But I'm beginning to dislike the outcome because everyone is starting to feel affected. I am affected. My work, too.

I've been working for a long time and I know for a fact that we can never please everyone, not even in our own family. Unlikely, someone is wanting me to fail. Someone is trying to pull me down just like what this someone is struggling to do to another person.

I'd like to know what I have done. Am I seen as an accomplice? Look, if you hate the person I talk and laugh with, don't hate me too. Because first, we don't think the same thing. Second, I just keep my cool and do my own stuffs. Third, I'm not your puppet. Come on, you wanna be a leader? Show me that you deserve to be one. If you have the ambition to someday lead, you should start changing your attitude now because seriously, nobody would want a leader like you. hehe.

This is the problem with people who assumes too much. They think they are ALWAYS right and smarter than the rest. Well, think again! I don't know what's the ulterior motive of this person. If this person is really concern about everyone, then this person should give what's due and favorable. Unfortunately, it is not the case. I realized that this someone has different faces. I thought this kind of person only exists in movies but I was obviously wrong.

I will never forget the first encounter I had with this person. I almost lost my confidence because of what this someone treated me. Good thing, that didn't stop me. Yet, I challenged myself after what happened. I am not someone who just sits around the corner and pretend nothing happened.

To you, don't be too ambitious. Wait to be recognized. Re-assess yourself and see what needs to be changed. Learn to compartmentalize your feelings. The thing with you is that everything seems too personal. Nah, it shouldn't be. A person, in order to grow should learn to accept weaknesses and strengths. Being PROUD and SELFISH will not get you anywhere. Truth hurts but you will learn from it. Mistakes are our best experiences. Nobody is perfect but if you think you are, then you need a consult. hehe I have no intentions of stepping into other people's lives nor hurt their feelings. But sometimes, we need to stand up and let this people know what they are lacking. If no one will be strong enough to stand, these people will never see their mistakes.

I am not supposed to open this up, but what the heck! I'm pissed. I don't like to be put in this kind of pedestal especially if I have not done anything wrong. But despite this, I am still cool. I just want to let go of this feeling so I could move on.

On the lighter side, I still have training to attend tomorrow. I hope it will be a better day for me because today sucks bigtime!

Excess Baggage. I feel so weird today. For some reason, there's this baggage of feeling I'd like to get rid of. I'm pissed of something and I can't help but react. Well, I know we can't please everyone. Just like what they say, in every movie comes a villain. We also have villains in our lives. It's just that sometimes, these villains cross over the border and assume too much of things. Hmm, I guess they play their role too well. I just hate people who have many different faces. They are too coward to stand on what they say and loves to back-stab others. Personally, I prefer to be stabbed at the front so I could see right in the eye. Too bad, these people don't have the guts. And I truly hate their guts.

What I'd like to say really is that, a person should wait for others to praise him and be recognized. He should be humble to himself. Maybe he should start to re-assess himself and ask: "Am I thinking of the better for everyone or for the better of my own?" Think again!

Time Management. Weee! I am so happy that one of my blog gigs have been approved. Isn't that nice? hehe. I am so revved up to keep on blogging for a cause. My friends wonder how I can manage to blog despite my schedule. Well, time management is the answer to that.

I've been living independently for a few years now and I've managed to handle things orderly. I think it matters a lot to be organized to save time and effort.

I manage to:

1) plan and organize clothes to wear for 5 days work
2) decide ahead of time the menus for the whole week
3) budget fixed expenses
4) cook everyday for dinner
5) pack my lunch before going to work in the morning
6) mingle with my friends before going to bed
7) surf and BLOG!

These things have become a routine for me. It makes my life move smoothly. I believe that with organization comes time management. haha! Peter Parker is that you? Ciao!

Photobucket Do you recognize this face? You should! This is a billion dollar face. I am featuring Bill Gates because I was struck by the giant billboard from one of the Polytechnic schools here in Singapore. "The world needs more than one Bill Gates" - who would not feel inspired with this eye-catching line? True, but did he not pursue any degree while he was in Harvard? Attention students, Bill may have not earned an academic diploma but his outstanding aptitude exempted him from the rule. And I'd like to believe that there are Bill Gates out there who remains to be undiscovered. Truly he is a remarkable man. He established his own name in the software business.

I hope that students will be inspired and continue to feed their minds.

Looking back during my time, I can have as much information stuck in my head. But as time passed, it gradually fades. Well, a part of life that is definitely beyond our control, the undeniable truth of aging. haha!

Friday the 13th.I guess this is where it all began. This was such a hit horror movie in the 80s.

But realistically, some countries like the Philippines, Hungary, Belgium, Poland to name a few believe Friday the 13th to be a bad luck. Events could merely be a coincidence, but if it does happen often, I think it sure is a bad luck.

Just this morning I witnessed someone's bad luck. I rode a cab on my way to work when the cab driver started to feel uneasy. He sighs deeply and keeps on saying the local expression "aiyu." I ignored at first and just stared outside the window. But then, uncle driver just can't keep still. "Aiyu" some more meh! haha. I began to feel a li'l bothered. Maybe he couldn't take whatever he was feeling, until he stopped the meter and drove straight to a coffee shop. I was puzzled. It's definitely out of the way. I couldn't help but ask, "Uncle, what is wrong? Are you going to the toilet?" He said YES firmly. Ahh so now I know why he can't keep still. Haha. At first I was confused if I'll have to wait for him or take another cab. He couldn't think straight when I asked him but managed to give me my change after paying. I should have not paid in the first place because it was just a few blocks away from where I stay. Well, I can't blame uncle. I understand how difficult it is to hold something we can't hold. haha especially when all he could say was just "tsk, aiyu". Aaaw, poor uncle.

So instead of feeling pissed, as I was rushing to reach work before my taxi claim gets forfeited, I just had to put my worry behind because of uncle's unfortunate hour. hihi. I walked myself in the neighborhood boulevard and waited for another cab. Luckily, I got another, an auntie cab driver. Weee! I had to request her to drive a bit faster as I am chasing time. Luckily, I reached the office 3mins before call time. But! when I punched in, it was 06:30:59AM. By the time my card was read, it hit 06:31:00AM. Yikes! I'm doomed. Aiyu, uncle shared his bad luck to me. hihi. Well, true enough, Friday the 13th is a bad luck. What about you, anything bad happened today?

Cars and Girls. What is it about cars and girls? I was on my way home together with my colleagues when we saw the oldest car ever spotted in Singapore. One of my colleagues jokingly said that he wouldn't let his car old that long, like a junk-old. Haha. Me and Eve just laughed it off. Hypothetically, Eve said that maybe the car was from Malaysia. She thinks that people from Singapore would not keep a car for so long. hehe fair enough, I haven't seen much of old cars since I got here.

The funny thing about our small talks (while on our way to the bus terminal) was Richard started to compare girls with cars. He thinks that the older the car, the higher the maintenance. With girls, the longer you spent with them (gf to wife) the higher the expenses. Is it?

When I got home, I asked Archie. What is about cars and girls? What do they have in common? Surprisingly, answers came out. First, he said with stylish cars, people generally reacts in just one word, "wow" which is same with girls. Second, luxury cars are like "expensive" type of girls. Third, simple car yet relaxing to drive. Girls who are like me, mwehehe. I mean girls who are as simple as the word implies. And lastly, a junk car is alike to unappealing type of girls. Usually, junk cars always need repairs, etc. Just like girls, they need doctors to keep 'em look good. Whoa!

But! Hold your horses. hehe... Apparently, these kind of reactions only happens on first encounter. Eventually, we re-assess ourselves and begin to weigh things. Why buy something expensive when you can have another for a cheaper price, right? Why change an old car when you can innovate it to look different? Just like girls, why go for the "high-end" if you can be happier on lower ends? If I am to assess, the simile between cars and girls do not stop at what our eyes want to see, but with what our hearts feel too eventually. Well, first impression do not always last I think. Tell me, which car would you want to be, the stylish, luxury, simple or the junk? hehe
